Trip overview
Enjoy a one-of-a-kind adventure combining the thrill of driving an ATV with a visit to the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). Ride through striking high-Andean landscapes, take in the majestic Ausangate snow-capped peak, and finish with a short walk to one of the most visited natural sites in Peru.
The big advantage over the traditional walking tour is the distance covered by ATV: instead of hiking about 40 minutes uphill, here you only walk 3 to 5 minutes from where the ATVs are parked to the mountain's viewpoint.
There are four daily departures, each with its own pickup and return time.
Itinerary overview
Full day- Pickup from your hotel or Plaza Regocijo (depending on shift)
- Breakfast in Pitumarca (except the 8:30 a.m. departure)
- Transfer to Kayrahuire Alto, the ATV base

The route, step by step
Pickup. We collect passengers from their hotel, or from Plaza Regocijo if travelling on the last departure of the day.
Pitumarca and breakfast. We head to Pitumarca, where a semi-buffet breakfast is served (the 8:30 a.m. departure does not include breakfast, only lunch).
Kayrahuire Alto. We continue to Kayrahuire Alto, the ATV base, where the guide gives a safety briefing and a driving practice session before setting off.
ATV route. We begin the ride along an exclusive route, enjoying high-Andean landscapes and panoramic views of the Ausangate snow-capped peak.
Rainbow Mountain. On reaching the closest point to Vinicunca we leave the ATVs and walk between 3 and 5 minutes to Rainbow Mountain, with free time to explore the site and take photographs.
Return and lunch. We ride back to the parking area, board the transport and head to the restaurant to enjoy a buffet lunch.
Return to Cusco. After lunch we begin the trip back to the city of Cusco.

- Do I need experience to drive an ATV?
- No. Before the ride there is a driving practice session, and the guide explains how the ATV works.
- Is the walk to Rainbow Mountain long?
- No. Thanks to the ATV, the walk is only 3 to 5 minutes, compared to the roughly 40 minutes the traditional walking tour takes.
- What is the difference between the single and double ATV?
- The single ATV is for one driver. The double lets two people ride the same vehicle.
- Is breakfast included on every departure?
- No. The 8:30 a.m. departure includes lunch only.
- Is the Rainbow Mountain entrance fee included?
- No. It is paid directly at the entrance checkpoint.
- Is it recommended for people with heart or respiratory conditions?
